GAL IN UNIFORM

This sweet gal turned up a couple days ago. I love the shy smile. The confidence. (Although maybe that's the hat.) What saddens me is that she'll leave the Gift House when somebody decides they need a new frame.

CRANBERRY GLASS COMPOTES

Aren't these compotes?  In any case, they teach us a lesson about the dangers of dishwashing machines and cranberry glass. You could say these compotes are doing the "Cascade Fade."

Foot Massager

This is one of the mechanical feel-good thingys to come into the Gift House lately. We get foot soakers and back massagers too.

Chair and Other Things

There is something humbling about winter in New England.
Would somebody please come take the chair?

HOLIDAY TO HOLIDAY

Why do we seem to live holiday to holiday, like Tarzan swinging from tree to tree? Valentine's Day is just 33 days away, in any case.

TROVE OF VINTAGE GAMES!!

This really happened. An amazing trove of old board games were waiting for me this week, when I went down to the Gift House. It was so hard not to nab all of them. But I came home with only one: Bridge for Two.
All the rest (shown below) are still there:

TAGINES FOR THE SCARY GENIE

Two very tiny tagines!  They are for a Moroccan dollhouse kitchen. Or they might be spice holders. Very odd. But needed to be seen.

SCARY GENIE STATUE!!

I forgot to post this last week. He was standing on the picked-over Christmas shelf of the Gift House. What was he doing there?  He is not Christmas. He is Tale of the Arabian Nights. A genie with a daggar! He is about one foot tall and contemplating violence. So awesomely ugly!
I hope somebody took him home and smashed him to bits.

STAINED GLASS BOWL

This is not vintage Christmas Tree Shops. This is the real thing.

MIRRORED PEDESTAL

If only there was a city nearby. A place where mirrored furniture would be appreciated -- and welcome. This pedestal has a Fred Astaire appeal. Imagine it dancing on a black and white parquet floor. Just imagine.
I can hear a truck starting up in New York City right now.

BREAD FOR THE BLIZZARD

Two nice bread-makers are down at the Gift House. Think about a nice hot loaf to get you through the first blizzard of 2011.
I can taste it now.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

2011. Time for a new mug. Or a new take on life.
